The internship is an experience which takes place for a limited period in a productive/professional reality and it is consistent with the student’s educational course.
The internship has the following goals:
- It provides the opportunity to put into practice and deepen the knowledge acquired during the university studies.
- It contributes to the professional and specialized training through direct experience in the field;
- It facilitates professional choices through direct knowledge of the world of work and the different professions.
The training internship regulated in the " Regulations for training internship activities " can be carried out, compatibly with the course of study, according to the rules:
- External internship (type A): this is a training internship in a company or external institution (in Italy or abroad) aimed at acquiring type F credits (CFU) as required in the study plan;
- External internship (type B): this is a training internship in a company or external institution (in Italy or abroad) aimed at realizing the final thesis.
- External internship (type C): this is an extracurricular training internship in a company or external institution (in Italy or abroad), type F CFU are not recognized and it is not connected to the final exam.
- Internal internship (type D): this is a training internship carried out at the facilities of the University of Trento aimed at acquiring type F credits as required in the study plan; (type D1) or aimed at producing the final thesis (type D2)
External internship (type A – B – C)
The external internship involves a series of administrative procedures regulated by law n°196/1997 and the subsequent Ministerial Decree. n°142/1998:
- it can only be activated after the stipulation of an agreement between the university and the host institution;
- it is carried out on the basis of a training project;
- it is free of charge and does not constitute an employment relationship;
- it provides that the university tutor and the company tutor follow the student
- duration, period of development, access times and activity plan are established by mutual agreement between the university and the company.
The University of Trento considers the internship as an essential moment to complete the studies. It is also an important opportunity in choosing a profession and to connect the students to job opportunities.
Information for activating the external internship
Internal internship (type D1 - D2)
The internal internship is carried out in the Department's laboratories or within other structures of the University of Trento, maintaining the specificities of the external internship.
The methods and goals of this training activity follow these guidelines:
- the training activity must maintain the typical specificities of external internships, it is an activity that puts the student in contact with a methodology and a professional reality and which gives priority to relationships with external public and private institutions;
- the training activity must be distinguished from the study and research collaboration activity carried out at the Departments also in the context of research projects, aimed at the development of the final thesis.
The internal internship is carried out to:
- The acquisition of type F CFU as required in the study plan (D1 type), the “Form for the internship recognition” must be presented at the end of the activity;
- The creation of the final thesis (D2 type.)
In order to carry out an internal internship, the student must send to the Department secretariat thhe Internal internship activation form at least one month before the beginning of the activity.
This form must contain:
- type of internal internship (D1 or D2);
- the laboratory or the university structure where the internal internship will takes place;
- the university tutor and, if necessary, a co-tutor (if the activity is carried out in a laboratory of the University of Trento different from those of the Department of Industrial Engineering.)
- the topic and methods of implementation of the internal internship;
- the period of performance of the activity.
