The University of Trento offers its students scholarships for mobility abroad, for which it is necessary to apply through special calls for application.
Information on admission requirements and on how to participate in the various programmes are available on the University website.
The calls for Erasmus Study, Double Degree and Bilateral Agreements are published once a year. The calls for thesis research and internship abroad are always open with an annual deadline.
Among the best-known programs is Erasmus, which allows students to travel within the European Union for study experiences (one or two semesters at a partner university) or internship (2 to 6 months in a university, laboratory, research center or company independently identified by the candidate). The Department of Industrial Engineering has numerous agreements in Europe with more than 70 scholarships for 32 European universities.
Through the call for Bilateral Agreements it is possible to apply for a study mobility of one semester at a university outside Europe.
Those who want to get involved for a longer period can participate in the Double Degree programme, an integrated study path in which you spend part of your course at UniTrento and a part abroad. At the end of the two periods, you will get two degrees, the Italian one and the one from the host university.
Of particular importance are the double degrees created within the consortium T.I.M.E (Top International Managers in Engineering), an international network of Engineering Schools of great prestige with a high degree of internationalization.
The double degree T.I.M.E is characterized by a path of study more extended than the standard one (3 or 4 semesters of mobility that are added to a year spent in UniTrento), but that allows an international experience at 360 degrees, with full integration into the host country’s life and student community. Moreover, UniTrento students often have access to highly formative experiences of internship in the companies within the double degree program.

- IST Lisboa
- École Centrale French Group
- University of Cincinnati in the USA, where you can get an American Master’s degree against a single semester in study exchange.
EIT Double degree
The Department of Industrial Engineering is also a partner in two EIT (European Institute of Innovation & Technology) double degree programmes, which can be accessed at the first year through direct recruitment:
In the Master Programmes on SUstainable MAterials (SUMA), students who start their course in Trento can complete the double degree EIT Labelled at Grenoble INP, KU Leuven or MU Leoben, and students who start their course in KU Leuven can complete the double degree at UniTrento.
In the Master programme in Autonomous Systems, students who start their course in Trento can complete the double Master degree in Mechatronic Engineering at one of the following universities: Aalto Helsinki, KTH Stockholm, TU Berlin, EURECOM Sophia Antipolis, ELTE Budapest.
Grants for internships
It is possible to obtain funding for a period of internship abroad (2-6 months) with a host entity identified by the candidate, both in Europe (Erasmus grants) and outside Europe. The grants vary depending on the country of destination. In the same way it is also possible to apply for a postgraduate internship (3 months), but the application must be submitted before graduation.
A very interesting opportunity is the one to carry out the activity for the realization of the final thesis at a company or a structure outside the University of Trento, also abroad.
Students can take advantage of a grant by participating in the call for thesis research abroad, which offers scholarships for 3 months of mobility to an institution identified by the candidate.
