The SUMA master programmes aim to train tomorrow’s industrial engineers in collaborative work in a global world and gather some of the best educational programmes in the field of sustainable materials engineering in Europe. They stimulate innovation, entrepreneurship and leadership and focus on circular (eco)design, materials substitution, life cycle engineering and circular economy design, materials processing and recycling, manufacturing, and innovation. They involve studies in two different institutions, an internship in a company and a master thesis in collaboration with a company.
Selected students can chose one of ten different options, study one full year at one of the partner universities, and continue the second and final master year in a different country. Five participating universities offer a master programme with a focus on sustainable materials:

- Montanuniversität Leoben (Austria)
- University of Trento (Italy)
- Grenoble INP (France)
- University of Milano-Bicocca (Italy)
Students who pass all subjects receive a double degree from both institutions and a certificate from the EIT. The SUMA master programmes have been granted the EIT-label, which indicates that the programmes foster students to become more creative, innovative and entrepreneurs. Only a few programmes supported by the EIT Knowledge and Innovation Community (KIC) on Raw Materials have been awarded this EIT-label. It is a quality seal awarded to top Master and PhD programmes, which excel in shaping a new generation of students into game changers and innovators. At EIT RawMaterials, eligible EIT Label students also receive grants totalling EUR 13.500.
Tracks
Five partner universities offer 10 different tracks. Each track of the Master programmes on Sustainable Materials consists of one full year at an entry university, followed by a year in one of the other participating universities. All courses are taught in English. Depending on their background, some students might be invited to follow additional preparatory courses.

Students will be selected and admitted to the programme and track based on their academic results, prerequisite requirements, motivation and language skills. Students are required to choose an IMAGINE entry partner institution and an IMAGINE exit partner institution defined from the beginning of the track.
The final admission of students is always subject to final approval by the partner institutions involved in the track, as they must meet the admission criteria of the Master’s Degree Programmes of both partner institution of a track.
Prerequisites for the mobility include that the student has successfully completed a minimum of 36 credits at the entry partner institution. In case this minimum is not reached, students can, depending on the local regulations, continue within the regular Master’s Degree programme at the partner institution where they have applied, but not in the IMAGINE Dual Master’s track.
Students interested in applying at the university of Trento will have to submit a first application by July 1sth of each year for EU students, by January 30 of each year for Non EU students, and then apply to University of Trento according to university deadline.
